Best (born February 27, 1899, West Pembroke, Maine, U.S.—died March 31, 1978, Toronto, Ontario, Canada) was a physiologist who, with Sir Frederick Banting, was one of the first to obtain (1921) a pancreatic extract of insulin in a form that controlled diabetes in dogs.

Hace 16 horas · Frederick Banting and Charles Best, working in the laboratory of John Macleod at the University of Toronto, were the first to isolate insulin from dog pancreas in 1921. Frederick Sanger sequenced the amino acid structure in 1951, which made insulin the first protein to be fully sequenced.
