Frederik IX ( Danish: Christian Frederik Franz Michael Carl Valdemar Georg; 11 March 1899 – 14 January 1972) was King of Denmark from 1947 to 1972. [3] Born into the House of Glücksburg, Frederik was the elder son of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine. He became crown prince when his father succeeded as king in 1912.

Frederik IX was the first Danish king to definitively waive political influence. He to a large degree defined the role of the modern monarch in Denmark, and was probably the best-loved king Denmark has ever had.

Frederik IX was King of Denmark 1947–1972. In 1935 he married Princess Ingrid of Sweden, daughter of the then Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf (later King Gustaf VI Adolf) and Crown Princess Margaretha. They had three daughters, Margarethe, Benedikte and Anne-Marie. Frederik IX of Denmark died in 1972.
