En 1934, la universidad fue renombrada y recibió el nombre del escritor alemán Friedrich Schiller, que había impartido clases como profesor de historia y filosofía en la universidad. Desde 2014, cuenta con alrededor de 19.000 estudiantes matriculados y 375 profesores.
