Frogmore House is currently closed to visitors. Standing in the Home Park of Windsor Castle, the gardens at Frogmore House have been an enduring attraction for monarchs and their families since the house was purchased by Queen Charlotte in 1790.
As part of developing Frogmore's gardens, Queen Charlotte had built a simpler retreat house in 1801, now known as Frogmore Cottage. When Charlotte died in 1818, she left the house to her daughter Princess Augusta Sophia , who lived there until her death in 1840.

7 de may. de 2024 · The original Frogmore House was built in 1680-4 by Charles II's architect Hugh May for his nephew. It stood on the estates of Great and Little Frogmore, which were bought by Henry VIII in the sixteenth century and let to various tenants. The name derives from the preponderance of frogs which have always lived in this low-lying marshy area.
For almost 20 years, Frogmore was the home of Queen Victoria's mother, The Duchess of Kent. Works by her and her daughter are on display in the house. Queen Victoria often visited Frogmore during her long widowhood and worked on her papers there. You can also see watercolours by her daughters, the Princess Victoria and Louise in the house.
In 1900 Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma was born at Frogmore House. On the estate near the House is Frogmore Cottage, built for Queen Charlotte around 1801. Frogmore Gardens are Grade I listed. Places of burial Duchess of Kent's Mausoleum

Frogmore House, so named due to the large number of frogs in the area originally, stood on the estates of Great and Little Frogmore, which were bought by Henry VIII in the 16th-century. Hugh May, Charles II's architect at Windsor, built the house for his nephew Thomas May and his wife Anne Aldworth, since its completion in 1684, it's been occupied by a succession of Crown tenants.
