It is also known by some other names such as Gloucestershire Old Spot, Gloucester Old Spot, Gloucester, GOS, Orchard Pig, The Cottager’s Pig or simply Old Spots.
9 de may. de 2024 · In 1972, when Eric acquired his first Gloucestershire Old Spots, another retainer of the family, ‘Old Joe’, ‘Old Cecil’s ‘ son and heir, muttered darkly that they “ouldn’t be druv” and explained that, in the early 1930s, Eric’s grandfather had bought some at a local farm sale and had left Joe to herd them back along the road to Newent, a walk of just a few miles.

Eric Freeman was one of the founders of the British rare breeds movement, helping to save the Gloucester cattle breed in the process. He died in October 2023, aged 91.
