Three main regions now existed in Hesse: the electorate of Hessen-Kassel, the grand duchy of Hessen-Darmstadt, and the duchy of Nassau to the north-west. Prussia's Germany. Throughout Europe there was peace for a generation.
The Grand Duchy of Hesse State Railways ( Großherzoglich Hessischen Staatseisenbahnen) belonged to the Länderbahnen at the time of the German Empire. In the 19th century, the Grand Duchy of Hesse consisted of three provinces. Between the rivers Rhine, Main and Neckar the province of Starkenburg embraced the Odenwald and the Hessian Ried.

In 1871, after France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War, the whole of the Grand Duchy joined the German Empire. Around the turn of the 20th century, Darmstadt was one of the centres of the Jugendstil. Until 1907, the Grand Duchy of Hesse used the Hessian red and white lion barry as its coat-of-arms. 9 de dic. de 2013 · The Grand Duchy of Hesse was formerly named [Grand Duchy of] Hesse-Darmstadt (1816-1866). After 1866, when Prussia annexed Hesse-Kassel, it was named Hesse. The flag was probably first hoisted on 1st March 1820. In 1918 the republic was proclaimed, and the new constitution approved on 12 December 1919. Jaume Ollé, 17 July 1996.
