The Cromwell family is an English aristocratic family descended from Hugh de Cromwell who came to England with William the Conqueror. Its most famous members are: Thomas Cromwell, 1st Earl of Essex; and, Oliver Cromwell, the Lord Protector.
Gregory Cromwell, 1st Baron Cromwell, KB (c. 1520 – 4 July 1551) was an English nobleman. He was the only son of the Tudor statesman Thomas Cromwell, 1st Earl of Essex (c. 1485 – 1540) and Elizabeth Wyckes (d. 1529).
They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 2 daughters. His occupation is listed as 1st baron of cromwell in Cromwell, Nottinghamshire, England, United Kingdom. He died on 4 July 1551, in Launde Abbey, Launde, Leicestershire, England, at the age of 31, and was buried in Launde Abbey, Launde, Leicestershire, England.

A second son, Edward, followed in 1539 and a third, Thomas, in 1540 as well as two daughters: Katherine in around 1541 and Frances about 1544. After the appointment of his father as constable of Leeds castle Gregory and his growing family took up residence there in 1539.

Gregory’s two legitimate sisters died along with his mother of sweating sickness when Gregory was nine. Thomas Cromwell sought to ensure his son’s well-being and education in the aftermath of his bereavement by sending him to nuns to be cared for.
