Built in. 1925-1926. Location. Dessau, Germany. Introduction. Bauhaus, etymologically meaning ‘House of Construction’, was founded in 1919 in Weimar ( Germany) by Walter Gropius, moved to Dessau in 1925, and disbanded in 1933 in Berlin. The spirit and teachings of the institution can be said to have extended throughout the world.
Near the Bauhaus (Ebertallee 65–71, 51.8432°N 12.2205°E ), Walter Gropius built the masters' houses as accommodation for the masters of the Bauhaus. These also served as model houses for modern living. The client was the city of Dessau, and the Bauhaus masters lived there as tenants.
The exhibition in Gropius House tells the eventful history of the building, which forms a close connection to the surrounding pine forest with its large glass surfaces, terraces and balconies. Visit Opening Hours
