Today, the hmt is one of Europe’s most popular training institutions. 570 students from 30 countries are studying here. The hmt is member of der Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen (AEC) and in 2015 the hmt was the first university to join the "Deutsche Bühnenverein".

Die Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (hmt) wurde 1994 gegründet und hat seit 2001 ihren Sitz im ehemaligen Katharinenkloster in der Hansestadt Rostock. Sie ist eine internationale Ausbildungsstätte in den Bereichen Musik, Schauspiel, Lehramt Musik, Lehramt Theater (Darstellendes Spiel) sowie Musikwissenschaft.
The Rostock University of Music and Drama (short HMT, Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock in German) is a college of music in Rostock, Mecklenburg, Germany. It opened in 1994 and is situated in a former abbey called Katharinenkloster in the historical core of the city.
