4 de jul. de 2019 · This is known as Holyrood Week, or Royal Week to those in Scotland, and sees the King base himself at the palace while he visits many places and the people of Scotland. When the King is staying at Holyroodhouse the Palace is closed to the public although you can still visit the Queen’s Gallery (closed until 2024 unfortunately) .

Holyrood Abbey. Legend has it that, in 1127, King David I of Scotland had been hunting in the forests east of Edinburgh when he was suddenly thrown from his horse by a charging hart. Clutching the beast’s antlers in self-defence, he was saved at the last minute when the hart was startled by sunlight reflecting from a crucifix.

The palace of Holyrood House (as it’s officially known) is the main residence of the British monarchy in Scotland. The King spends one week at the palace at the beginning of each summer, and many tourists wait excitedly for the royal flag to be raised, which indicates he’s in residence. Holyrood Palace is certainly an impressive place to visit.
