The House of Hanover (German: Haus Hannover) is a European royal house with roots tracing back to the 17th century. Its members, known as Hanoverians , ruled Hanover , Great Britain , Ireland , and the British Empire at various times during the 17th to 20th centuries.

House of Hanover, British royal house of German origin, descended from George Louis, elector of Hanover, who was crowned George I in 1714. He was succeeded by George II, George III, George IV, William IV, and Victoria. It was succeeded by the house of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, which was renamed the house of Windsor in 1917.
