The dynasty rose to prominence when Count Christian I of Oldenburg was elected King of Denmark in 1448, of Norway in 1450 and of Sweden in 1457. The house then occupied the Danish throne continuously for 576 years until the abdication of Queen Margrethe II in 2024.

14 de ene. de 2024 · One of the most important familial lines of the Danish royal family is the Royal House of Oldenburg. The family is a Germany dynasty that then became connected with Denmark when Count Christian I was elected king of Denmark in 1448, followed by Norway in 1450 and finally Sweden in 1457.
History. The royal and noble house was founded in 1101 by Elimar I, Count of Oldenburg. Their paternal ancestry is obscure other than the fact that they are Germanic, emerging as counts in an area known as Oldenburg in Northern Germany which was for a time a vassal-state of the Duchy of Saxony.
