The Howard family is an English noble family founded by John Howard, who was created Duke of Norfolk (third creation) by King Richard III of England in 1483. However, John was also the eldest grandson (although maternal) of the 1st Duke of the first creation.

History: The house of Howard, the leading family of the English Roman Catholic nobility, was founded by Sir William Howard or Haward of Norfolk (died 1308). The family acquired the dukedom of Norfolk by marriage.
The Howard family name was found in the USA, the UK, Canada, and Scotland between 1840 and 1920. The most Howard families were found in USA in 1880. In 1840 there were 536 Howard families living in New York.
