Maud Humphrey (March 30, 1868 – November 22, 1940) was a commercial illustrator, watercolorist, and suffragette from the United States. She was the mother of the actor Humphrey Bogart and frequently used her young son as a model.
Later in life, she gained recognition as the mother of famed Hollywood actor, Humphrey Bogart. Born in an elite neighborhood of Rochester, New York, Humphrey was the daughter of John Perkins Humphrey and Frances V. Dewey Churchill. She was very proud of her family’s social prominence and retained her maiden name throughout her career.[1]
Humphrey DeForest Bogart was born on Christmas Day 1899 in New York City, the eldest child of Belmont DeForest Bogart and Maud Humphrey. Belmont was the only child of the unhappy marriage of Adam Welty Bogart (a Canandaigua, New York, innkeeper) and Julia Augusta Stiles, a wealthy heiress.

Issued in three simultaneous editions featuring one, six, or twelve color illustrations (all here), the book was by Maud Humphrey, who, in the same year, married Dr. Belmont De Forest Bogart. A year later, on Christmas Day, she bore a son.

Maud’s son, Humphrey was the model used for her most famous advertising illustrations – advertisements for the Mellin’s Baby Food Company. Both parents spent a great deal of time at home.
Maud Humphrey was Humphrey Bogart's mother. She lived in Rochester until she was 18, at which time she went to New York to study at the Art Student's League and then to Paris. She married Belmont Bogart in 1898. They lived in New York and summered at Seneca Point on the coast of Canandaigua Lake.
Part 1. The cover of this year’s guide for the Holiday Tour of Homes features artwork by Maud Humphrey who, in the late Nineteenth Century, lived briefly at #5 Greenwood Street. An excellent artist, her work is often overshadowed by the fact that her son was movie actor Humphrey Bogart.
