Peter Graves (born Peter Duesler Aurness; March 18, 1926 – March 14, 2010) was an American actor who portrayed Jim Phelps in the television series Mission: Impossible from 1967 to 1973 and in its revival from 1988 to 1990. His elder brother was actor James Arness.

During World War II, he and his brother James Arness joined the United States Army. Arness was an infantryman and was wounded in the battle of Anzio, Italy, while Graves was posted to the Army Air Force (which later became a separate branch of the United States military).

After doing some research, it turns out that Peter Graves and James Arness did indeed star in a few movies together. The first time they appeared together on the big screen was in the 1951 film “The Thing from Another World.”
