Janet Stewart, Lady Fleming (17 July 1502 – 20 February 1562), called la Belle Écossaise (French for 'the Beautiful Scotswoman'), was a Scottish courtier. She was an illegitimate daughter of King James IV of Scotland who served as governess to her half-niece Mary, Queen of Scots.

Janet Stewart, Lady Fleming. Janet Stewart, the Lady Fleming, was the illegitimate daughter of James IV of Scotland and the widow of Malcolm, 3 rd Lord Fleming, who, in September 1547, was killed at the Battle of Pinkie Cleuch.
Lady Janet Fleming was Mary Queen of Scots governess – and her half-aunt. She began life as Janet or Jenny Stewart, an illegitimate daughter of King James IV. When she was about fifteen she was married to Malcolm, the third Lord Fleming who was ten years older than her.
When Janet Stewart was born on 17 July 1502, in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, her father, James IV King of Scotland, was 29 and her mother, Agnes Stewart, was 21. She married Sir Malcolm Fleming 3rd Lord Fleming on 26 February 1524, in England. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 6 daughters.
