The Hon. John Herbert Bowes-Lyon (1 April 1886 – 7 February 1930) was the second son of the 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and the Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and the brother of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the future Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

John was born on 1 April 1886 in England. He was the son of Claude George Bowes-Lyon KG KT GCVO and Cecilia Nina (Cavendish-Bentinck) Bowes-Lyon. [1] When John was 28 he married Fenella Hepburn-Stuart-Forbes-Trefusis on 29 September 1914 in England.

The Bowes-Lyon family descends from George Bowes of Gibside and Streatlam Castle (1701–1760), a County Durham landowner and politician, through John Bowes, 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, chief of the Clan Lyon.
