Frederick Augustus I (born Dec. 23, 1750, Dresden, Saxony—died May 5, 1827, Dresden) was the first king of Saxony and duke of Warsaw, who became one of Napoleon’s most loyal allies and lost much of his kingdom to Prussia at the Congress of Vienna.

The population of 4.3 million was released from occupation and, by 1814, sent about 200,000 men to Napoleon's armies.
