The coronation of William IV and his wife, Adelaide, as King and Queen of the United Kingdom took place on Thursday, 8 September 1831, over fourteen months after he succeeded to the throne of the United Kingdom at the age of 64, the oldest person to assume the throne until Charles III in 2022.

Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen (Adelaide Amelia Louise Theresa Caroline; 13 August 1792 – 2 December 1849) was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Queen of Hanover from 26 June 1830 to 20 June 1837 as the wife of King William IV.

The City of Adelaide was named after Adelaide, Queen Consort of King William IV of the United Kingdom. She married William in July 1818 when she was 25 and he was 52 – part of a strategy to secure the British succession.
