Hace 4 días · History of the Russian city of Kaliningrad, formerly the German city of Konigsberg. Detached from the rest of the country, the city is an exclave of the Russian Federation. Formerly the capital of East Prussia, Kaliningrad was ceded to the Soviet Union in 1945 under the Potsdam agreement.

The history of the city may be divided into four periods: the Old Prussian settlement known as Twangste before 1255; the Polish city of Królewiec from 1454 to 1455 and then fief of Poland from 1456 to 1657; the German city of Königsberg from 1657 to 1945; and the Russian city of Kaliningrad from 1945 to present.

The site of the castle was originally an Old Prussian fort known as Tuwangste near the Pregel River at an important waypoint in Prussian territory. Nearby were three Prussian villages, later known as Löbenicht, Sackheim, and Tragheim.
