It’s near the village of Blackness in Scotland and you have to cross a bridge over to an island to access it. The address is: Blackness, Linlithgow, West Lothian, EH49 7NH.
Known as the ‘ship that never sailed’, Blackness Castle was built in the 1400s by one of Scotland’s most powerful families, the Crichtons. It was used as a garrison fortress and a state prison, and cuts an imposing presence looking out over the Firth of Forth. Blackness Castle stands in for Fort William in the first series of Outlander.
