I’ve wanted one for years, and when Lionel announced that it would include an updated version of the last postwar crane (the no. 282R) in its Postwar Celebration reissue series, I made a place on my layout for one.
Features. The 282 Portal Gantry Crane has the following standard features: gray support structure with a gray top plate, black cab with white letters, glued-in smokestack -- in either black or gray -- a black three-lever control base plus an electro-magnet on the hook of the crane.

Replace control wire with 6 feet of 5 wire ribbon cable. Paint one outside edge of cable for identifying wire numbers. The #5 wire is the ground/common wire. See Lionel Instructionsfor attaching power to transformer.
Worm Gear flanges on Clutch Shaft assembly must fit into base notches. Install Coil and Bracket Assembly. Install nylon gears. Wire Controller
Install all gears, motor, wiring, test for proper operation, then slip cab on. Return to Operating Cars and Accessories

2 de nov. de 2018 · Just picked up the Lionel 282R Gantry Crane. Can not get the magnet to go up and down. Also, the Crane easily comes off the base. Does anyone have a repair manual that shows all the parts and how they go together? Would like to get this fixed before Thanksgiving when the grand kids show up. Thanks, RAY
