Designed in a Neoclassical style, the palace has a total of 775 rooms, including 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices, 78 bathrooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, and 19 state rooms.

The monarchy does not own Buckingham Palace, even if the King’s name is on the mail. Many royal properties in the UK are property of The Crown Estate, which is an independent business that manages the properties.

However, in 1760, George III surrendered control over the Estate's revenues to the Treasury, thus relieving him of the responsibility of paying for the costs of the civil service, defence costs, the national debt, and his own personal debts.
