In 1547, Dudley was created Earl of Warwick and, with the Duke of Somerset, England's Lord Protector, distinguished himself in the renewed Scottish war at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh. During the country-wide uprisings of 1549 Dudley put down Kett's Rebellion in Norfolk.

22 de ago. de 2016 · On 22nd August 1553, John Dudley, Earl of Warwick and Duke of Northumberland, was beheaded on Tower Hill for his part in putting his daughter-in-law, Lady Jane Grey, on the throne in place of Mary I. Northumberland's friends, Sir John Gates and Sir Thomas Palmer, were also executed on this day in 1553 for supporting Northumberland.
Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, 1st Earl of Hertford, 1st Viscount Beauchamp KG, PC (1500 [1] – 22 January 1552), also known as Edward Semel, [2] was an English nobleman and politician who served as Lord Protector of England from 1547 to 1549 during the minority of his nephew King Edward VI.
Hace 3 días · Hertford became Duke of Somerset and Lord Protector of England after the old King’s death and held this position until he was overthrown two years later. Leadership then passed to Dudley, who dominated the government until the death of Edward in 1553.
26 de feb. de 2024 · Whilst Seymour and Dudley briefly reconciled, the former Lord Protector proved too much of a threat for Dudley to ignore and thus he was later executed, just months after Dudley was promoted to become Duke of Northumberland.
