8 de abr. de 2024 · Created Viscount Sidmouth in January 1805, he then served as lord president of the council (1805, 1806–07, 1812) and lord privy seal (1806). As home secretary in the ministry of the earl of Liverpool, from June 1812 to January 1822, Sidmouth faced general edginess caused by high prices, business failures, and widespread unemployment.

11 de jun. de 2018 · When Liverpool formed his ministry in 1812 Sidmouth became home secretary, holding the office until 1821, when he remained in the government as minister without portfolio. At the Home Office Sidmouth was responsible for the surveillance of radical activity.
However, he accepted the post of Lord President of the Council in April 1812 and then became Liverpool's Home Secretary. Liverpool succeeded the assassinated Spencer Perceval as PM. As Home Secretary, Sidmouth pursued a policy of severity in an attempt to suppress manifestations of discontent and disaffection.
