Louise of Prussia (Luise Marie Elisabeth; 3 December 1838 – 23 April 1923) was Grand Duchess of Baden from 1856 to 1907 as the wife of Grand Duke Frederick I. Princess Louise was the second child and only daughter of Wilhelm I, German Emperor, and Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach.
The Grand Duchess felt lonely and homesick, particularly after her sister Frederica returned to Baden. Elizabeth was abandoned in an alien world where she could never be herself, even among her servants and ladies-in-waiting.
Louise, Princess of Prussia, only daughter of William I, King of Prussia and (from 1871) Emperor of Germany, and Augusta, daughter of Charles Frederick, Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, married, on 20 September 1856, Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden.
Description. Princess Louise of Prussia was painted by Sir William Ross at short notice while she and her parents, the King and Queen of Prussia, were guests of Queen Victoria in July 1856 shortly before her marriage on 20 September to Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden.
