Lower Franconia (German: Unterfranken) is one of seven districts of Bavaria, Germany. The districts of Lower, Middle and Upper Franconia make up the region of Franconia. It consists of nine districts and 308 municipalities (including three cities).
The largest part of Franconia, both by population and area, belongs to the Free State of Bavaria and is divided into the three administrative regions (Regierungsbezirke) of Middle Franconia (capital: Ansbach), Upper Franconia (capital: Bayreuth) and Lower Franconia (capital: Würzburg).
Schweinfurt ( / ˈʃvaɪnfʊərt / SHVYNE-foort, German: [ˈʃvaɪnfʊɐ̯t] ⓘ; lit. '' swine ford '') is a city in the district of Lower Franconia in Bavaria, Germany. It is the administrative centre of the surrounding district ( Landkreis) of Schweinfurt and a major industrial, cultural and educational hub.
