When Henry VIII became King of England in 1509, Wolsey became the King's almoner. Wolsey's affairs prospered, and by 1514 he had become the controlling figure in virtually all matters of state.

Magdalen College is open every day from 2 January to 19 December between 10am and dusk or 5.00pm, whichever is the earlier, with the exception of July, August and September when the college will close at 6.30pm. Magdalen College invites all alumni, friends of the college, and visitors to campus throughout Holy Week and the Paschal Triduum. All liturgies are open to the public.
