The dominant model in cognitive approaches to second-language acquisition, and indeed in all second-language acquisition research, is the computational model. [65] The computational model involves three stages. In the first stage, learners retain certain features of the language input in short-term memory.
7 de jul. de 2023 · Summary. Usage-based theories provide helpful frameworks and tools for the study of language in its various contexts of interaction. This chapter explores the application of these approaches to the study of second language (L2) acquisition.

The history of language teaching has seen a number of macro-methodological approaches which have had an impact on textbook designs. In the history of language learning methods, there have been three main approaches of impact: grammar-translation based approaches audiolingual/audiovisual approaches communicative language teaching In general, it can ...
Traditional foreign language learning settings are characteristically imbalanced in their distri-bution of focus on learning activities. While much attention is being paid to reproductive exercises with a focus on grammatical correctness, comparatively little classroom time is being devoted to oral skills – to listening and speaking. This is usuall...
As stated earlier, the four selected models discussed in this article cover all levels and different areas of the language learning process. While the Levelt model gives us an explanation of how speaking evolves in the mind, Nation and Newton’s model of the four strands helps us to balance learning activities. Swain’s output hypothesis model addres...
Pre-task: Introduce theme or topic, test learner readiness, demonstrate task, and elicit essen-tial speech segments Main Task: Learners engage in a task or tasks in which functionally useful utterances are used and elicited naturally and repeatedly Sample tasks: Problem solving, role-plays, games, simulations
The post-communicative era is characterized by the fact that there is no single macro-methodological approach that could claim to cover all relevant aspects of teaching and learning. New approaches are not in sight and not very likely to be developed. Language educationists and educators need to consider a number of state-of-the-art approaches and ...

Abstract. This contribution provides an overview of second language acquisition research from a psycholinguistic perspective. The overview is mainly focused on cross-language interactions during word and sentence production and comprehension at different points in the second-language acquisition process.
1 de mar. de 2012 · This review synthesized research regarding optimal conditions for L2 acquisition, facilitative L2 learner and teacher characteristics, and speed of L2 acquisition, from four bodies of work—foreign language education, child language research, sociocultural studies, and psycholinguistics—often overlooked by educators.
12 de ene. de 2020 · This is an overview of the Socio-Educational Model of Second Language Acquisition from the first publication on the topic (Gardner & Lambert, Canadian Journal of Psychology, 13, 266–272, 1959) to recent research.
