The New Buildings along Holywell Street were built (1873-96) to house them. Fellows were allowed to marry (1868) and began to have careers as researchers and tutors. The college is in the centre of Oxford, between Holywell Street and New College Lane (known for Oxford's Bridge of Sighs). Its sister college is King's College, Cambridge . The choir of New College has recorded over one hundred albums, and has won two Gramophone Awards .

Su nombre oficial es, College of St Mary, el mismo que el del antiguo Oriel College; de ahí que se le denominase “New College of St Mary”, y ahora se le llama “New College”.

feb de 2020. Un college bellísimo, con un alto valor histórico y arquitectónico, y muy cuidado. La capilla, aunque pequeña, es bonita, y el claustro es precioso. Además, es un lugar de referencia para los fans de Harry Potter y de La materia oscura, pues aquí se rodaron escenas de ambas sagas. De José Joaquín G. “ College magnífico ” jul de 2019.
Es uno de los más famosos y académicamente más exitosos de los colleges de Oxford, se levanta a lo largo de Holywell Street y New College Street, junto al All Souls College, The Queen’s College y el St Edmund Hall.
