List of current knights and ladies of the Garter. The Most Noble Order of the Garter is a British order of chivalry. It is the world's oldest national order of knighthood in continuous existence and the pinnacle of the British honours system (after the Victoria Cross and George Cross ).
Members of the order may encircle their heraldic arms with the Garter. The collar of the order as it appears on some heraldic arms Members are assigned positions in the order of precedence , coming before all others of knightly rank, and above baronets .

The Most Noble Order of the Garter was founded by Edward III of England in 1348.
