3 de may. de 2021 · Celtics expanded into France in around 350 BC, and the land became known as Gaul (with the tribes living in it also called Gaul). Between 58 and 50 BC, Julius Caesar eventually captured Gaul and it became an Ancient Roman Province. Eventually, Germanic tribes started invading Roman-owned Gaul and conquered it.
With the death in 1477 of Charles the Bold, France and the Habsburgs began a long process of dividing his rich Burgundian lands, leading to numerous wars. In 1532, Brittany was incorporated into the Kingdom of France. France engaged in the long Italian Wars (1494–1559), which marked the beginning of early modern France.
