Edward Robert Lytton Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Earl of Lytton, GCB, GCSI, GCIE, PC (8 November 1831 – 24 November 1891) was an English statesman, Conservative politician and poet who used the pseudonym Owen Meredith. During his tenure as Viceroy of India between 1876 and 1880, Queen Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India.

Meredith, Owen. A pseudonym adopted by Edward Robert, first Earl of Lytton (1831-1891), son of the novelist Bulwer-Lytton, the author of Lucile (1860), etc. He took his pseudonym from the names of two of his ancestors, Owen Gwynned ap. Griffith, King of North Wales, and ap. Meredith ap. Tudor, great-grandfather of Henry VI of England.
