They are possibly the oldest specimens of their kind yet discovered and part of a growing body of evidence unearthed in the Cradle that three genera – Homo , Paranthropus and Australopithecus – shared this terrain at about the same time in history.

The two probably coexisted together for a short while, with "Paranthropus robustus" living from 1.8 million to 1.2 million years ago, and "Homo erectus" coming on the scene at about the same time.
