Charismatic, blue eyed, Paul Newman, was horribly miscast in his film debut in 1955, in the silly biblical epic, The Silver Chalice. They must have learned quickly because the next nearly 50 years featured sheer brilliance, and one memorable film characterization after another for the wonderful Paul Newman.

- The Color of Money (Martin Scorsese, 1986) POR EL FETT. ¡Vamos! Una de las menores películas de Scorsese es también en términos generales quizá la más débil de las 11 en este ranking, pero como se trata de calificar mejores actuaciones en mejores películas, la evolución del campeón del billar, es poco más que brillante y merecedora del Oscar.
- Road to Perdition (Sam Mendes, 2002) POR EL FETT. Qué manera de despedirse (aunque su último crédito sería como voz en Cars de Pixar), como una verdadera deidad de la actuación.
- The Hustler (Robert Rossen, 1961) POR EL FETT. No lo sé, quizá debería estar en el lugar uno al ser una superior cinta, pero la emancipación de su personaje en este crudo relato de degradación son tan fastuosamente abordados, que 15 años después le hicieron la chamba tanto a Scorsese como a Newman (ya todos saben el cómo y con qué).

Sin lugar a duda la mejor tragicomedia del género gracias a la picardía y química de sus dos maravillosos protagonistas y la perspicacia de su director en el permiso que otorga su inicial leyenda: “Casi todo lo que se narra aquí es verdadero”.
