Hace 1 día · The crown princes of Hesse and Prussia arranged a cease fire in the middle of July. Dalwigk rejected this in the hope that France would enter the war against Prussia. On 31 July, Prussian troops occupied Darmstadt without a battle. After its defeat in the war, Hesse was forced to concede territory to Prussia in the Treaty of 3 September 1866 .
