On 10 February 1840, Augusta attended the wedding of her niece Queen Victoria to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. She died later that year on 22 September at Clarence House , St. James, London, and was buried in the Royal Vault at St George's Chapel, Windsor on 2 October, after lying in state at Frogmore .
