Joan and her retinue were travelling into the center of a tragedy the likes of which Europe had never seen, and arrows and walls would not be enough to save her.
Hace 3 días · A small bronze statuette (or weeper) of Joan, a daughter of Edward III and Philippa of Hainault, can be seen on the side of her father's tomb in Westminster Abbey. This can be viewed from the south ambulatory. She was born in 1335 and died on 2nd September 1348 en route to Spain to marry Pedro of Castile. She lies buried in Bayonne cathedral.

In 1345 she was betrothed to Peter of Castile, and in the summer of 1348, Joan departed England with a heavily armed retinue. The fleet consisted of four English ships which departed from Portsmouth and arrived in Bordeaux.
