Princess Victoria of Hesse and the Rhine was the eldest child of the Grand Duke, Louis IV, and his wife Princess Alice of Great Britain. Born at Windsor Castle in the presence of Queen Victoria on Easter Sunday of 1863, she was baptized a couple of weeks later, held in the arms of her namesake grandmother.
