Stirling planteo en este caso una reformulación del tradicional college anglosajón dispuesto alrededor de un patio central. Así, aprovechando la masa de árboles que bordean el riachuelo situado al norte de la parcela, el edificio se concibe como una U compuesta por cinco cuerpos rectos que se articulan formando ángulos de 45 grados.
James Stirling diseñó en 1966 el Edificio Florey en el Queen's College de Oxford, terminando su construcción en 1971. El proyecto es un alojamiento para estudiantes con cocinas contiguas en cada planta y una zona de desayuno en el patio. El edificio crea con su volumen único una figura que recuerda a un semicírculo.
