Ryan Murphy es un escritor, productor y director de cine y televisión estadounidense, nacido el 30 de noviembre de 1965 en Indianapolis, Indiana, USA y conocido por ser el creador/co-creador de exitosas series como Popular, Nip/Tuck, Glee y The New Normal. El fue uno de los encargados de idear y darle vida, junto con su colega Brad Falchuk, a la franquicia conocida como American Horror Story.
Murphy creció en Indianapolis y formaba parte de una familia católica irlandesa. Empezó su carrera trabajando como periodista para The Miami Herald, y en 1990 escribió por primera vez para televisión. Su carrera en televisión comenzó realmente en 1999, con la comedia adolescente Popular, que estuvo al aire por dos temporadas.
