Many patronages of Saint George exist around the world. Saint George ( Greek: Γεώργιος, translit. Geṓrgios; [note 1] died 23 April 303), also George of Lydda, was an early Christian martyr who is venerated as a saint in Christianity. According to tradition, he was a soldier in the Roman army.

Enlisted as a Roman soldier in the Guard of Emperor Diocletian, he was martyred for his beliefs and became regarded as one of the most prominent military saints. Christian folklore also honours him through the popular tale of Saint George and the Dragon.
Upon enlisting, George quickly distinguished himself as a soldier of merit. His dedication to duty, combined with his natural leadership abilities, earned him recognition and respect among his peers and superiors.
Valiant Soldier: St. George, a Roman soldier of Greek origin, became renowned for his unwavering Christian faith and bravery. Martyrdom: Refusing to recant his beliefs during Emperor Diocletian's persecutions, he endured tortures and was eventually executed.
23 de abr. de 2024 · St George is considered the patron of knights, soldiers, scouts, fencers and archers, among others; he is also invoked against the plague and leprosy, and against venomous snakes. In the absence of certain information about his life, in 1969 the Church changed the liturgical feast of St George to an optional memorial on the universal calendar.
