Description. Noël Nicolas Coypel combined two stories associated with Saint James the Greater, one of the twelve apostles of Christ. In the foreground is the magician Hermogenes, begging forgiveness. Hermogenes had cast a spell on James, but the saint turned the curse back on him.

2 de sept. de 2020 · I’d seen prints of The Fall of the Magician before but not the earlier picture from what turns out to be a two-part set depicting an occult encounter between Saint James and the magician Hermogenes.
The Apostle Saint James the Greater Freeing the Magician Hermogenes is an artwork by Fra Angelico from around 1426–29. It was produced using tempera and gold on panel, in line with all of this artist's paintings. The composition features the magician to the left hand side in a bright red robe.
