Her crew were rescued by Impe ( Russia ). Amanda was on a voyage from Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, United Kingdom to Mandal.

His right leg was severely bitten in three places by a 10–12-foot (3.0–3.7 m) tiger shark, and he died of blood loss a short time after swimming to shore.
