He was educated at Repton and Clare College, Cambridge with a degree in classics, then studied art at the Slade and Bushey schools. Ford, also known as Henry J. Ford or H.J. Ford, illustrated the series of 12 “colored Fairy Books” (Blue, Green etc) edited by Andrew Lang.
