  2. 8 de abr. de 2024 · Thomas Seymour, Baron Seymour (born c. 1508—died March 20, 1549, London, England) was the lord high admiral of England from 1547 to 1549. His political intrigues led to his execution for treason and thereby contributed to the downfall in 1549 of his elder brother, Edward Seymour , duke of Somerset, who was lord protector (regent) for the young king Edward VI .

On the night of January 16th, 1549, Thomas Seymour tried to break into the child monarch’s apartments, but his attempt was foiled when one of the king’s spaniels woke the place up with its barking. While is has been suggested that Seymour was nothing but a gold digger, Elizabeth Norton points out that in 1543 Catherine Parr “was no great catch”, being the widow, or nearly widow, of “a mere baron”.
