The civil wedding took place on May 22 at Broadlands, the family estate is in Romsey, Hampshire. Nicholas, 40, is the eldest child of the 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma and his wife, Penelope.

Three other family members were seriously injured, they are the Earl's daughter lady Brabourne her husband Lord Badbroune the Dowager Lady Brabourne, and the twin brother of the dead Nicholas RM G4N2BH – Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by the vicar, the reverend H.L McDonald Liegeois, after attending morning service at the 11th century church at Mersham, near Ashford in Kent.
