3 de jun. de 2019 · From central Paris, the easiest way to get to the Chateau is to take Metro Line 1 to Chateau de Vincennes, then follow signs to reach the entrance. You can also take the RER A (commuter train) to Vincennes. Board from Chatelet-les-Halles or Nation; it's only a short trip to the east. Bus lines 46, 56, and 86 also serve the Chateau.
30 de sept. de 2019 · Like many a town in France, Vincennes grew out of a château, and like many a great château around Paris – Fontainebleau, Compiègne, Versailles – Vincennes’s got its start as a hunting lodge. Louis VII seized a vast tract of lush forest to the east of Paris for his lodge, which was completed in 1150 and then expanded in 1180 by Philippe Auguste for his royal residence.

The Château de Vincennes’s famous donjon tower, at 52m high, is the tallest fortified medieval structure in Europe. It was added by Philip VI of France around 1337. The grand rectangular circuit of walls, measuring more than a kilometer in length with six towers and three gates, each 42m high, was completed over the next hundred years.
