The Strandbad Wannsee is an open-air lido on the eastern shore of Großer Wannsee lake, a large bay of the Havel river in Berlin, Germany. Opened in 1907, it is one of the largest inland lidos in Europe, with a beach that is 1,275 metres (4,183 ft) long and 80 metres (260 ft) wide, [1] replenished with sand from the Baltic coast. [2]

A hidden gem for Berlin is the lido resort of Wannsee. A large lake with beach, lido and excellent facilities was just a 30 minute train ride on the S-barn (S1) from the centre of the city. If you exit at Nicolasee then there is a delightful 1km walk to the Strandbad Wannsee through woodland and avoiding roads.

The Strandbad Wannsee (Wannsee Lido) complex is now a listed building. The lido is a popular weekend destination in the summer, especially for working-class families who cannot afford a trip to the fashionable Baltic seaside resorts.
Strandbad Wannsee is the legendary classic of the Berlin swimming locations. For its centenary this open air swimming pool was thoroughly renovated in 2007 and it is widely regarded as Europe’s biggest bathing location on a lake.
