From 1843 to 1859, present-day Idaho was under the de facto jurisdiction of the Provisional Government of Oregon. When Oregon became a state in 1859, what is now Idaho was situated in what remained of the original Oregon Territory, designated as the Washington Territory.

Idaho has a Rich and Fascinating History. When Congress created Idaho Territory in 1863, the new territory sprawled across an area one-quarter larger than Texas. Today’s state is smaller, but Idaho is still as large as all six New England states combined with New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware.

Idaho was initially inhabited by Native Americans who still live in the region to date. Idaho belonged to the Oregon Country an area that was disputed between the British Empire and the United States.
9 de mar. de 2023 · Early European Exploration. The first Europeans to explore the area now known as Idaho were members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. They arrived in 1805 and encountered the Nez Perce tribe. They also encountered the Shoshone, who helped them cross the Rocky Mountains.
